Offer In Compromise

·   Settled with the IRS, $500,000 in past due taxes for $50,000.

·   Settled with the IRS, $100,000 in past due taxes for $100

[Because of changes in the tax law, one cannot expect similar results]

For a Fortune 500 Company: Global Real Estate Services

·   Saved company about $6 million during a New York Sales and Use Tax audit

·   Developed the policies and procedures in filing the Washington Business and Occupational Tax Return and two successful Voluntary Disclosure Agreements [State of Washington and the City of Seattle].

·   Reorganized the department – Grew the size of the department & retrained staff to be accountants and integration of departments after the Trammell Crow Company purchase

For a Savings and Loan Association [under contract with the Resolution Trust Corporation]

·   Outstanding business challenges: Responsible for winding up tax operations before assets were sold.

·   Successfully appealed a California Franchise Tax Board determination concerning “unitary business” rule.  This saved the company over $500,000 in taxes.

For a felony case

·   John Ellis CPA was qualified as an expert witness in the field of accountancy and worked with the SEC and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, Wayne County, Ohio.  

·   John Ellis CPA testimony resulted in the accused being convicted of over 125 counts of securities and banking violations.  The accused was sentenced to forty years in prison.

·   John Ellis CPA discovered a $1.5 million error in a $3.5 million budget and improper accounting procedures.  This almost resulted in the recall of the city counsel
